CANONSBURG, PA – December 1, 2020 – Ansys (NASDAQ: ANSS), the global leader and innovator of engineering simulation software, announced that it completed the acquisition of Analytical Graphics, Inc. (“AGI”), a premier provider of mission-driven simulation, modeling, testing and analysis software for aerospace, defense and intelligence applications for $700 million.
AGI has pioneered Digital Mission Engineering, which has become essential for developing IoT systems in defense and now commercial arenas. The acquisition by Ansys drives mission-based simulation to a broader existing installed base and accelerates commercial acceptance.
“Ansys’ acquisition of AGI will help drive our strategy of making simulation pervasive from the smallest component now through a customer’s entire mission,” said Ajei Gopal, President and CEO of Ansys, when the signing of the definitive agreement was announced on October 26, 2020. “It will also expand the use of simulation in the key aerospace sector, where the stakes can be at their highest levels. We are excited to welcome the expert AGI team – and to expand the reach of their world-class technology to industries outside of aerospace, including for autonomy and 5G applications.”
Fairmount Partners, a leading middle-market investment bank in the technology industry, served as financial advisor to AGI on the transaction, along with Allen & Company LLC. Fairmount has advised AGI for over 20 years, including on financings, corporate structure and development, positioning and support with three spinouts that are all funded and remain in the Philadelphia region:
- Cesium, which provides breakthrough software for managing and displaying 3D images across the web
- OneSky, which has pioneering capability for managing manned and unmanned air traffic, like drones and air taxis
- ComSpOC, which collects data, tracks, simulates and projects satellites and related at a level of accuracy and time orders of magnitude higher than any other system
If you’ve ever seen a rocket launch, flown on an airplane, driven a car, used a computer, touched a mobile device, crossed a bridge or put on wearable technology, chances are you’ve used a product where Ansys software played a critical role in its creation.
